Ok folks, sooooo sorry for the delay and utter disregard of the blog for weeks upon weeks. Looking back at old posts, I once actually WROTE words instead of just posting pics, which I thought was rather entertaining...I don't know about you. So, please accept my utter apologies. I now pledge (two fingers in the air salute ala girlscouts), from here on out, to provide you, the blog reader with the most fabulous, funny, entertaining, and sometimes even tearjerking posts....posts that are so amazing, they will literally make you do splits and high kicks around the room!!!! So, here it goes:

For those of you who didn't know, my little brother Mattycakes just got married to Beth, who is totally awesome. Good job matt! Anywho, Matt attended Appalachian STate University in the heart of the NC mountains, Boone NC. (thriving metropolis of peace pipe lovin' hippies and avid snowboarders) The mascot of said school is YOSEF, a really old mountainy hillbilly gold-digger type guy.....

Hey Everybody, We hope you are enjoying the sunshine and warmth as much as we are! We just wanted to say a quick thank you for all your interest in us this Spring...As a result, we are all booked up until May. Yummy G has been extremely busy with baby showers, weddings and tons of other celebrations! We will be doing a dessert buffet for our very own sibling, Matt, who is getting married at the end of this Month. Kelly is one of the bridesmaids as well, and Katie is the photographer of the special day, so needless to say, we have been extremely busy getting ready for the festivities. We hope you bear with us and be patient, as we try to take as many orders as we can, without compromising our work. So....I have been listening to rumors lately (and I don't mean the Fleetwood Mac album) about a so-called "cakepop" being debuted at a national chain coffee shop that shall remain nameless but I think you all know who I mean (think green mermaid), and all I can say is in the timeless words of Pat Benatar - "hit me with your best shot"!!!!! You can try to imitate us, but you will never intimidate us, and certainly not overtake us! Look folks, I am not saying that you cant buy your 5 dollar latte and have your cake too, but just remember YGBS. And if you reeeeaaallly like what they've got......you're going to LOOOOOOOVE what We have to offer! ANd ours come in unlimitless flavors and personal decorations are allowed! We love the cakeball and we knew it was only a matter of time before the world found out, so it's about time! Just remember who to get em from! Ps- we ship them now!

Hey Folks! Here at Yummy Goodness we love all things "Crafty"! As the holidays approach and the days zoom by at warp speed, we find less and less time to get things done and find that perfect gift! Well, check this out! My sister stumbled across a woman - owned company by the name of Sarah Catherine Designs , while attenting a wine festival at the Sandy Ridge road Farmers Market in Greensboro. Sarah Catherine had a booth there with the cutest trinkets including her pet inspired line - Enjoy the Chase - of jewelry and wine bottle stoppers. She also creates custom cake toppers made of baked clay! We took the liberty of photographing one of these said items that we purchased as a gift to Katie Lou Cupcake for her birthday. Hey Folks! Kelly here. Just got back from an awesome Vaca to San Francisco and I have to say, what an amazing city!!! If you have never been, or even if you have, it's worth going back to check it out! I tried to hit up the usual touristy spots (Alcatraz, Pier 39, Coit Tower etc...) and of course, had to sample some of the local cuisine including a slice of Tony's Pizza, delicious Tiramisu from Stella's and cupcakes from Kara's Cupcakes in Ghiradelli Square...(my fav: choc with ganache frosting and peanut butter filling!) I definately recommend a ride on the trolley and a stroll through Golden Gate Park as well! The cool weather was so refreshing from our scorching summer and I loved being able to wear a jacket while waiting for the N Judah to take me to town. So here are a few pics from the trip!

Have you folks ever tried "Gelato"? It is in one word - Heaven! While I was in DC, my nieces , their Aunts, Mother and I were roaming around the zoo and after a long hard day of scoping out the wildlife, we treated ourselves to some of this creamy, refreshing goodness!

Gelato means "Frozen" in Italian and originated from Italy. Gelato has less air than ice cream making it denser and more flavorful. It is made with less milk fat than ice cream and therefore has less calories! We love checking out all places yummy and hope that next time you are looking for a summer treat, you try some Gelato instead of ice cream.

Unfortunately, Matthew's mom passed away quite unexpectedly, a few months after he was born . Come out and support this cutie pie, this Saturday! There will be a pancake breakfast from 7 - 11am on May 15 at Muirs Chapel Church in Greensboro. Tickets are $5. There will also be a bake sale and silent auction as well for everyone to participate in. Hey everybody!

So sorry we have been a bit slack on the blogging side of things lately...Katie and I have been swamped with orders and we have also been trying to adjust to our new schedules...For those who didn't know, we recently quit our full-time jobs to devote more time to Yummy Goodness and ultimately to YOU, our loyal cupcake-eating friends! HOORAY! Hopefully we will start to be able to handle more orders that come our way and reclaim our presense at the curb market! We still will be doing our old jobs, but on a freelance basis!!!

So.....as we prepare for wedding season, festival season, and the beginning of summer and First Friday nights....Katie and I are excited about all that is to come in the future with YGBS!

Look for us in downtown Greensboro for the First Friday Indie Festivals. Also we will be there for Shindig on the Square on Sunday, May 6th!

Summer Solstice will be coming up over the summer in June, and Yummy will once again be there sporting our inner goddesses and delivering fairy and wizard wands to all who stop by our booth!

Take some salty bacon, add some syrup-soaked pancakes, and top it off with a dollop of maple-vanilla buttercream. Not only is this the makings of a hearty meal, it’s the combo of flavors is found in Yummy Goodness Bake Shoppe’s Breakfast Special cupcake — just one example of the bakery’s cheeky, unconventional custom-order confections.
With indulgences like chocolate-dipped potato chips (described as two sins wrapped into one) and the Top Shelf line of liquor-infused cupcakes on the menu, there’s something to satisfy every craving. Creativity comes naturally for the home-based baking duo of Katie Hilbert and Kelly Green, who are also co-workers in their photography-industry careers.
After the samples they made in culinary night classes drew a following at the office, they lightheartedly built a social-networking page for their sweets. When the page began to attract customers, Green and Hilbert decided to take the steps to make their much-loved pastime a full-fledged business.
“We knew we’d made it big when Kelly gave me a key to her house,” Hilbert jokes.
Green says they’ve dedicated a lot of time to perfecting their craft in the years since. Yummy Goodness’ cakes have illustrated themes ranging from a clambake complete with fondant lobster claws, oysters, corn on the cob, and seashells, to an ’80s tribute featuring the likes of Smurfette and Pac-Man.
Then there are the Cake Balls. Once an inventive use for leftovers, they’re now signature items that require extra baking to keep up with demand. One of the places you can find them is at a/perture cinema. According to employees at a/perture, a lot of people come into the theatre just to buy them.
“Knowing that you had a part in someone’s celebration is fun,” Hilbert says. “It’s our artwork because we put so much heart and love into it, but [the bakery items] aren’t something you just stare at.”

Katie is training for the San Diego Rock and Roll Marathon in June. This weekend proved to be quite a crazy one! Not only did we have SNOW again (and lots of it), but we also made a cake for Coca-Cola, a special birthday cake with a cello on it, but Yummy Goodness teammate Kelly - rushed down to Charlotte for the birth of her very first nephew - Dylan James Petersen. Dylan was born to Bonnie and Zach Petersen and is absolutely BEAUTIFUL!

Well, from the looks of it we gave Camdyn a warm fuzzy. It looks like she really enjoyed her cake!

Check out the new art house cinema coming to downtown Winston Salem this Friday, January 8th. Not only will they be featuring really great indie flicks, but they also will be selling Yummy Goodness at the concession stand. I mean come on.. great date, cakeball on a stick in one hand, cupcake parfait in the other, a cool movie... what a great way to spend a Friday night. (Did we mention they serve wine and beer?? YES!!!) Team Yummy is super excited about the grand opening and definitely gives Lawren Desai and Aperture two thumbs up!!!

When we have time, we enjoy watching some quality shows on the boob tube!! We often turn to the Food Network to watch Alton Brown, a good fierce cake competition, Ace of Cakes, or the ever mouth watering Diners, Dives, and Drives with Guy Fieri. A few weeks ago we had the privilege to eat at one of the restaurants in Charlotte, NC featured on Guy's show. We enjoyed tons of great food, family, conversation, and took home some great bakalava!!

We often get asked "How on Earth do you guys not weigh 500 pounds from being around all these sweets all the time?" Well.... we're very active here at the Yummy Goodness Bake Shoppe! Kelly enjoys running, playing soccer, dodgeball and kickball. Katie on the other hand doesn't participate in team sports but also enjoys running, swimming, and horseback riding. For fun we ran a half marathon a couple of weeks ago and we are proud to say we both finished and have our medals to prove it!!!

It was an exciting night, let me tell you! Downtown Greensboro was alive and in the holiday spirit. Elm street was closed, people were flocking, we froze our tushes off, but oh it was fabulous. We had a sold out night with only two bags of peanut butter filled Ritz crackers dipped in chocolate left. Indie market is going into hibernation for the winter so look for us again in the spring selling our wares on the corner of Mlk and Elm!

Cub Scout Halloween

A few weeks ago we got to help a Cub Scout troop celebrate Halloween with a cupcake decorating contest. It was super exciting and there were so many creative cupcakes. Some cupcakes weighed as much as the kids themselves by time they were done adorning them! It was very hard playing judge and picking a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place.

The cake was absolutely perfect! It tasted delicious but the best part was the jeep with the little people! I don't know how you captured them so perfectly. The first time that they went on a real date was 4-wheeling!
